Reduce Conflict
Our Common Story helps to reorient humanity away from destructive territorial and ideological conflicts toward creative problem-solving. If we understood the new science of our evolving human nature, we would know that what we share in common transcends race, ethnicity, language, religion, and geography. Indeed, humans are profoundly related to all other species of whom the other primates are our closest relatives.
In the twenty-first century in an age of weapons of mass destruction and global communication, humanity can ill afford our old narrow-minded tribal proclivities. Instead we must expand the circle of moral concern and figure out new ways to solve the many problems created by our species success. In the 21st century, we need to think cosmically and act globally.
Our Common Story is an productive occasion for inter-religious, inter-ideological, and international dialogue. As a tool for doing so, we seek to build "the New Big Book of Nature Wiki" and to translate this into all the languages of the world. That, of course, is but a small part of a larger challenge to teach, interpret, debate, and transform our thinking and doing in the 21st century.
